Today clothing is far more than just functional. It is an expression of personal style. That is why consumers are also more concerned with the care of their clothing.

Consumer demands on laundry detergents and fabric conditioners are increasing. Detergents and additives need to ensure that favorite clothing articles still look like new, even after many washes. Consumers want products that maintain the original color and protect fabrics from being worn out. However, existing products for laundry applications such as fabric conditioners and dryer sheets are so far not able to fulfill these demands sufficiently. Therefore, Cognis Care Chemicals has developed an innovative concept based on a wet dryer sheet loaded with special additives. This features a unique technology for depositing substances onto the fabrics, changing the feel of the textiles to give a more pleasant, enhanced wellness experience.

Several options are available for the transfer of substances which benefit fabrics during or after washing.

They are commonly used as:

• laundry detergents (during wash cycle in a washing machine)
• fabric softener (during rinse cycle in a washing machine)
• regular dryer sheets (during drying cycle in a tumble dryer)
   
  

In chemical terms, the latter two are generally limited to cationic components due to the high affinity that these substances have to fabrics. Cationic components mainly soften fabrics, provide fragrance and give anti – static benefits to the clothes.

With Plantatex^® types Cognis has developed a special wax for the drying cycle of the clothes that overcomes these and other limitations. Based on a wet dryer sheet concept, Plantatex^® is the first special active ingredient on the market which incorporates a new fabric care concept called Heat – Activated Care Crystals™. This is a wax-based dispersion that transfers wax crystals to fabrics during tumble drying. As soon as the water evaporates out of the clothes and the temperature increases, these wax crystals melt to form an even layer around the fibers, thus providing special benefits for the consumers like making clothes more pleasant to wear, protecting clothes from wear and tear, maintaining colors and increasing ability of moisture uptake.
