Cognis Care Chemicals is well prepared for REACH

In December 2006 the European Parliament and the Council adopted a new Regulation concerning Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals, titled REACH (Reg. (EC) 1907/2006).

All phase-in substances produced in EU Europe or imported by Cognis have been sucessfully pre-registerd for the concerned Cognis affiliates. As a consequence, no REACH related issue is likely to occur using Cognis products as ingredients as the transitional period given in the pre-registration process maintains a REACH related supply reliability till at least until end of Registration Phase I. This is December 1, 2010.

Although decisions regarding the registration of a large number of the substances that we manufacture or import have already been made, others still require careful evaluation. We are confident that the transitional periods will give us and you, our customer, sufficient time to find satisfactory solutions in preparation for the respective registrations.

Based on our knowledge of the raw materials and processes used in production, we do not expect Care Chemicals products to contain Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) above relevant legal applicable limits.

As Cognis is well prepared in the light of REACH, our customers are in a favorable position. As in the past, we at Cognis have worked continuously on safeguarding the quality and safety of our raw materials and products. Naturally, we will continue to do so in the future and ensure that our products can be used safely. Both in the purchase of raw materials and in the production processes, we consistently pursue our strategy of sustainable operations.
