Green light ahead

A lot has happened in the world of forestry since the 1980s. The paper and pulp industry, in particular, has faced enormous environmental challenges. The concept of sustainability and the obligation to reforest were not the only important stimuli for a change in attitude. Attention was increasingly paid to the environmental sensitivity of the machinery and the hydraulic fluids that were used. After all, carelessness or a mechanical defect could easily cause hydraulic fluid to spill out and seep into the forest soil.

Cognis – A prime mover
Cognis took up this challenge early and developed hydraulic fluids that combine environmental sensitivity with top performance. We succeeded in synthesizing tailor-made, environmentally sound, highperformance oils from renewable raw materials. They are used, for example, as a basis for rapidly biodegradable hydraulic oils. With a content of up to 98 percent, Cognis oils play a key role in the environmental sensitivity of the end formulations. Moreover, our biohydraulic oils provide extreme stability, lasting performance, and great reliability.

Environmentally sound and technically superior
Biohydraulic oils from Cognis offer proof that “bio” and excellent performance are indeed compatible. Their long life and the resulting longer intervals between oil changes offer obvious advantages. The use of biodegradable oils from Cognis is also extremely attractive economically. A minimum percentage of natural-source raw ingredients in the end product is obligatory in some places, such as British Columbia, Canada. In other regions, such as the EU, products with a biolube content of over 50 percent enjoy considerable tax advantages.
