Laboratoires Sérobiologiques presents Dr. LabSerobio at American Academy of Dermatologists annual meeting

One of the hottest trends in the skincare market is the increasing significance of cosmeceutical “Dr. Brands” – solutions that are endorsed by leading doctors and dermatologists. To serve this trend, Laboratoires Sérobiologiques (LS), the active ingredients business of Cognis Care Chemicals, has drawn on its more than 60 year history of scientific and technological leadership in cosmetic active ingredients, to develop its innovative Dr. LabSerobio concept. This was showcased at the 68th annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatologists (AAD), which took place between March 5 and 9 in Miami Beach, Florida, USA.

The popularity of cosmeceutical treatments among consumers is rising all the time – and if brands are endorsed by doctors, this enhances their appeal even more. LS’s new Dr. LabSerobio concept therefore includes a range of cosmeceutical products suitable for use in “Dr. Brands.” At the AAD annual meeting, the company introduced this new concept to an audience of dermatological and cosmeceutical experts.

LS developed its Dr. LabSerobio range in cooperation with Cognis Care Chemicals, combining their expertise in cosmeceutical actives and specialty chemicals to create formulations that simultaneously offer proven efficacy, perfect tolerance, excellent sensorics and full regulatory compliance. In line with the positioning of “Dr. Brands,” Dr. LabSerobio products support novel claims in maintaining the health and appearance of the skin, for instance by strengthening the skin’s immune system or by decreasing neurosensitivity. They include powerful and proven anti-aging treatments, and solutions to specific problems such as skin redness, dark circles and oily skin.

Among the Dr. LabSerobio ingredients featured is Skinasensyl, the first soothing cosmeceutical active for sensitive skin. This is a pure tetrapeptide is based on a new mechanism of action: it targets neurosensitive skin and is able to reduce nerve responses to external stimuli by decreasing the release of CGRP pro-inflammatory neuro-mediators – an action mediated via the activation of the μ-opioid receptor. Skinasensyl™ has been proven in clinical tests to increase the skin’s tolerance of environmental factors and known irritants, thereby diminishing sensations of pain and discomfort.

With the inclusion of specialist peptides such as Dermican and Syniorage, Dr. LabSerobio once again demonstrates LS’s expertise in the field of anti-aging solutions.

  • Dermican is an innovative pure synthetic tetrapeptide with a unique biological anti-aging action that works at the dermal level. It increases collagen network functionality by synthesizing lumican, a small proteoglycan directly involved in the synthesis and organization of new collagen fibers. By stimulating the synthesis of Lumican and Collagen I, Dermican™ ensures that newly created fibers contribute effectively to firmer, tighter skin, which looks and feels younger.
  • Syniorage is an active peptide that specifically targets the epidermis of mature skin. It acts on the two constituents primarily responsible for epidermal cohesion: it stimulates syndecan-1 synthesis to reinforce epidermal cell cohesion, and improves adhesion between the epidermis and the DEJ through the stimulation of collagen XVII synthesis. This leads to improvements in skin appearance, radiance and firmness.

Also ideal for anti-aging applications are LS’s high-tech botanical extracts such as Myoxinol LS 9736 and DN Age PW PSE 9827, both of which are also available in NPA-approved versions. Myoxinol is a botanical peptide extracted from hibiscus which smooths expression lines and reduces wrinkles. The polyphenol-rich DN Age, meanwhile, is extracted from the leaves of the candle tree. Its identified active component comprehensively protects DNA against both UVA and UVB-induced damages. It supports the natural cell repair process, and helps to protect skin against photo-aging. Both extracts are available in preservative-free versions and are compliant with Ecocert standards for Natural and Organic Cosmetics.

Other highlights of the company’s booth at the AAD meeting were:

  • Aqu'activ, a new functional moisturizer that supports the skin's own biological moisturization mechanisms by enhancing keratinocyte differentiation, encouraging epidermal cell-to-cell cohesion and maintaining an optimum skin lipid balance. As a result, skin is moisturized from within, and its elasticity is improved.
  • Argatensyl PW BIO LS 9902 a high-molecular-weight protein extracted from the fruit of the argan tree and provides immediate tightening, fine line reduction and long-term wrinkle reduction. Argatensyl is certified as organic by Ecocert.*

All LS actives have been tested and their efficacy has been proven in studies.

Comments Anne Laurie Rodrigues of LS: “Laboratoires Sérobiologiques was founded as a medical analysis laboratory by Dr. Georges Pauly – that and our great experience in cosmetic active ingredients make us the ideal partner for developing cosmeceutical ‘Dr. Brand’ skincare solutions. We are very excited about the growth prospects in this segment and the competitive advantages that we can provide to our customers.”
