But for us, this is much more than a marketing concept. It is a deep commitment to sustainability in the broader sense, with regard to our company and products as well as people and the environment.

Experienced in the use of  natural, renewable raw materials, Cognis is a pioneer and a leader in the manufacture of products based on green chemistry. We can provide our customers with the means to develop products that meet the central demands of sustainability: environmental acceptability, biodegradability and enhanced user compatibility—with a high proportion of natural, renewable raw materials always part of the package.

Comprehensive sustainable development
For Cognis, sustainability is more than fine words. Based on our
Sustainability Policy our dedication to sustainable development is well evidenced and verifiable. Our Action Plan also clearly demonstrates where we stand and what we want to achieve in the next few years. All new product developments pursued by Cognis follow our 24 Principles of Green Chemistry and Green Engineering. And our Code of Conduct sets binding ethical, moral and social standards for all Cognis employees around the world, based on clearly defined behavioral rules. Similarly, Cognis is committed to upholding fair and respectful working principles.

Sustainability Council—acting at the highest management level
In 2008 Cognis has set up the Sustainability Council. “Our aim is to abide by the principles of sustainability in every aspect of our business, and to ensure that we are seen to do so both internally and externally,” explains Antonio Trius. Under the leadership of
Richard Ridinger, Executive Vice President Care Chemicals, this council will be responsible for dealing with all questions arising from the issue of sustainability, and ensuring the necessary processes are in place to implement policy in this area.
